Journal of Metallic Materials (JMM) ISSN 2657-747X is a quarterly that publishes original results of studies conducted at Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy and research units of a similar profile of interest that cooperate with the Institute, as well as review papers from various fields related to the steel industry.
Articles in English are preferred. In exceptional cases, the Editorial Board provides for the possibility of translating the article into English after consultation with the Author.
1. SUBMISSION OF ARTICLES
- Articles prepared in line with editorial guidelines presented below should be sent in electronic form to the following e-mail address: (redakcja@im.pl) along with applicable declarations (Application for Approval).
- Articles are submitted to the Editorial Team that, following initial review of the content and form, decides whether the paper may be qualified for publishing in the JMM.
- Should the decision be positive, a publishing agreement is concluded between the Author and the Publisher. Then, the paper is submitted to Reviewers along with a review form; the identity and affiliation of the Author shall not be revealed to the Reviewers.
- If the Author disagrees with the Reviewer’s remarks, the Author shall prepare a response to the review.
- In special cases, at the request of the Reviewers, the paper shall be sent for re-review.
- The Editorial Team of the JMM shall reserve the right to implement corrections as to terminology, style and grammar which do not distort the Authors’ thoughts and creative ideas.
- Authors who decide to submit their papers, study reports, presentations or other scientific documents to the Editorial Team declare that the texts are original and they meet the requirements of reliable quoting and documentation of source materials and other researchers’ studies, including studies belonging to the canon of a given field that have influenced the overall orientation of the research presented.
2. REVIEWING PROCESS
To ensure that principles of publishing ethics and scientific reliability are abided by, the Editorial Board of the JMM applies the “double-blind review process”, i.e. double concealment of identity during the review process – neither the Author nor the Reviewer know each other’s’ names. Names of Reviewers of particular papers shall not be revealed. The list of Reviewers cooperating with the Editorial Board in a given year is given in the last issue of the journal, without specifying particular papers they reviewed.
Stages of review:
- Following the approval of the paper by the Managing Editor and/or Editorial Team, it is submitted to two independent Reviewers selected from among recognised authorities in a given field.
- In assessment of the received text, the Reviewer shall apply the principle of impartiality as well as shall refrain from using ad-hominem argumentation.
- The Reviewer is obliged to indicate missing items in the documentation of sources in the text or potential plagiarism, on the presence of which they shall immediately inform the Editorial Board.
- Following a positive assessment of the Reviewer, the text is transferred to the Author who shall introduce the correction recommended in the reviews.
- If the Author disagrees with the Reviewer’s remarks, the Author shall prepare a response to the review.
- In specific cases, upon the request of the Reviewer, the paper may be submitted to re- review.
- The Author is obliged to introduce the correction recommended by the Reviewer. Failure to respond to the opinion and introduce the proposed corrections shall result in the paper being rejected from publishing in the quarterly JMM.
Note! The Reviewer is obliged to refuse to review the submitted text in case of any conflict of interests and notify the Editorial Team on such.
3. EDITORIAL GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION OF PUBLICATION
- Provide the affiliation (name and address of the employer) of the Author(s) and the e-mail address of the Author representing the team, as a footnote on the first page of the paper.
- An abstract in Polish and English shall be provided under the title and its translation. The Authors shall prepare abstracts and their translations, which shall then be verified by the translator cooperating with the Editorial Board.
- Keywords shall be provided in Polish and English under the abstract; min. 5 and max. 10 words.
- Sections included in the paper, e.g. Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, shall be numbered.
- Captions for figures and tables shall be in Polish and English.
- Graphs, images and drawings shall be included as figures and numbered consecutively.
- References to figures and tables in the text shall be put in round brackets, e.g. (Fig. 2), (Table 3), while references to literature shall be provided in square brackets, e.g. [7], [1-4] or [2, 3, 9].
- Figures shall be in colour or black and white, in the min. resolution of 300 dpi. They shall be attached as separate files as TIF (preferred) or JPG, PDF (maximum quality or print quality required).
- Chemical equations and mathematical formulas shall be provided in a separate line and numbered in round brackets, e.g. (2).
- Automatically numbered literature references shall be provided at the end of the paper, under the title “REFERENCES” in the Numbered style, according to the following examples:

4. FINAL REMARKS
The Editorial Board shall refuse to publish the author’s materials when:
- any cases of scientific unreliability, in particular cases of “Ghost-writing” and “Guest Authorship”, are revealed,
- the author does not agree to introduce the required corrections of the content proposed by the Reviewer or Editorial Board.
The Editorial Board shall also accept for publication only papers which are the original creation of the Author, do not breach the rights of third parties or have not yet been published or submitted for publishing.
