63rd International Exhibition "Ideas - Inventions - New Products - iENA" was held on November 1-4, 2012 in Nuremberg. Instytut Metalurgii Żelaza was awarded with bronze medal for the following invention: Thermal insulation and refining of molten steel in hot top mould for casting of heavy forging ingots, which was presented during the exhibition on the common stand arranged for by the Association of the Polish Inventors and Rationalizers.
The developed method consists in insulating and refining of the liquid steel in hot top after casting, by covering it with insulating and heating cover and introducing of refining powder as well as maintaining the powder in liquid state until the contraction in metal volume occurs. Owing to that, high metallurgical purity is achieved as well as internal quality of ingot for forging is achieved. The following persons developed the invention on the part of the Institute: Dr. Bogdan Zdonek, Eng. and Dr. Lech Bulkowski, Eng. and on the part of Celsa Huta Ostrowiec Sp. z o.o.: Mr. Janusz Pichór, Msc. Eng and Stanisław Binek, Msc.Eng.
